The spread of the coronavirus from the Chinese city of Wuhan continues at a fast pace, with almost 80,000 confirmed cases globally as of 13:30 GMT on 24 February. The virus, officially named COVID-19, has been confirmed in over 25 countries/territories outside of mainland China, totaling 2,400 cases. So far, Johns Hopkins University has tracked more than 2,600 deaths caused by the virus.
The spike in cases seen on 13 February was due to a change in diagnosis methodology in China which led to thousands of new cases being added to the total count.
