The Media Preformed Greatly Exposing Irregularities in Helicopter Election in Kogi State- Dino Melaye tells Kwararafa Reporter's Award Night recently

Senator Dino Melaye is a recipient of numerous Awards from within Nigeria and abroad. At a point, he was a serial winner of the Senate Press Corps’ coveted ‘Senator of the Year’ Award for 2016 and 2017 consecutively.

The most recent in the string of laurels in Senator Melaye’s kitty is the ‘Outstanding Personality of the Year’ Award 2019 at the North-Central Service Awards held on Thursday, November 21 in Abuja.

According to Kwararafa Reporter, an online news platform, the recognition is aimed at further spurring other Nigerians to engender good governance and ultimately a better society, through diligence, hardwork, personal integrity and leadership as exemplified by Melaye and fellow awardees.

In his speech, Former Senator Dino Melaye said, it is an unfortunate thing for him to be unemployed. However, the joblessness is a trivialities that will soon fizzle out.

“ I want to show my delight to the organisers of this prestigious program and award for finding me wordy of being celebrated.

First , I want to appreciate the media for their contributions to the sustenance of Nigeria democracy. For the fact that myself, brother and friend Shehu Garba who operate from the extreme divide are in the same hall. It shows there is justice with this event. For an APC Minister, Chairman APC from Taraba is here, the Governor of Zanfara State who is PDP in the hall, it shows this gathering is a apolitical, a class and ceremony of merit
I will continue to say the media is playing a very vital role in the sustenance of democracy in the country. The media did something very fantastic by exposing all the irregularities in the helicopter election which just took no place in Kogi State. For me , that is an exposé and the media did not hide any abnormalities therein. They exposed every part of the irregularities in that election. I salute the media
I encourage Nigeria media to be fearless, put on the gown of heroes like “David Dual” and others who fought dictatorship to a standstill.”

Dino Melaye also said, “There is no time that man will not die. He will always die and truth has no volume. The truth is the truth. I want to encourage Nigeria media to continue to speak the truth to power. Because we have no other country to call our own but Nigeria.

Garba talked about hate speech and fake news I Dino Melaye am a victim ofbfake news and hate speech. Sometimes last year of was on social media that I booed the President during his budget presentation and of went viral. It was eve reported by main stream media.

The truth is -I was not even in the chamber on that fateful day. Hence , I can say categorically am a victim of hate speech and fake news. Besides this should not give legislature the power to usurp the fundamental right of Nigeria
The freedom of speech is guaranteed in section 39 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria . Nigeria is also a signatory to the United Nation Charter on Human Rights (UNCHR). Our country is also signatory to African Charters on People and Human Rights ( ACPHR). In fact , section 36 of that charter guarantees freedom of expression and freedom of the Press. So any bill in the National Assembly negatively pursuing any of the aforementioned is an affront on the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, UNCHR . it is an affront on African Charter on People and Human Rights which Nigeria is signatory and we have domesticated it. Because Section 1 (3) of the Constitution says, any other law in conflict  with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the level of inconsistency shall be null and void. All these others laws conflicting with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended should not see the light of the day. I advice  my colleagues in the National Assembly to bury the bill before it buries by itself.

I also want to say finally that Nigeria must come out of our cocoon of fear. We are where we are today because of fear. Nigerian must come out of fear. Our judges must be bold enough to overcome fear. Journalist must overcome fear. Similarly, our barristers must  overcome fear because in an unjust society , silence is a crime.

Nigeria is not owned by those in government. Government is owned by political entity and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is a misnomer, an aberration, the people in this country are less than five percent (5%) of the population. So, it is a misnomer for the 5% to have absolute control over 95%. The ninety five percent should determine how they want to be governed not those in power. The government is owned by the people. The people in turn must prove that government is owned by them in the most civilized and legal manne”.
Although recently defeated in a frivolous helicopter election and purported rerun election, Senator Dino Melaye , a former member of the Senate, has being honoured with “Man of the Year”, Award. The award was presented by Garba Shehu, an had to President Muhammad Buhari .
“ Unfortunately, I am unemployed. But I want to assure you. It is just for a while. Because the victory of evil over good is temporal and evaporative. I assure you in a matter of few days and weaks we shall restore what rightfully belongs to us.” Melaye Said
