Armed Bandit Kills Customs Officers On Duty in Kogi

A  team of patrol officers were attacked last Thursday by armed bandits along Lokoja-Okene road, which resulted to the death of two officers (Assistant Superintendent of Customs One S OHIREMEN and Assistant Superintendent of Customs Two SM OMALE), Another officer, Deputy Superintendent of Customs HI OLADAPO sustained a gunshot injury.

The injured officer was quickly moved to Federal medical centre Lokoja for medical attention and has  been discharged from the hospital and would be returning to work as soon as he is in full health.

Lomba Benjamin, Public Relation officer Customs Niger/Kogi Command in a statement said ASC II OMALE was buried on Friday 13th December, 2019 according to Islamic rights in Ayamba village of Kogi State while ASC I OHIREMEN will be buried at his home town in Ondo State by January 2020.

The Customs Area Controller (ABBA-KASSIM YUSUF)  during a condolence visit to Omale’s  wife, children and family  assured the family that the Management will deploy all necessary mechanisms to ensure the perpetrators of this evil act are brought to book.

He added that The  sad event will not distract the command  from vigorously discharging our statutory functions.

“Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service are only implementers of Federal Government Policies, hence we urge every Nigerian citizen aggrieved toward losing his/her goods to engage the services of the Court rather than resort to violence and killing of family men whom are the bread winners of their families while serving their Nation.”

 

The statement read further that “ Nigeria Custom Service, Niger/Kogi Command has continued to maintain close contact with the bereaved families. We are pained by the sad development and share in the grief of losing fellow officers, colleagues, brothers, husbands, fathers and the likes. We are and will continue to work with other sister agencies in identifying the armed bandits in connection to the attack on our officers and anyone found guilty will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”

Breaking: Kogi Guber, disqualification Saga: Natasha’s Defeat INEC at Appeal Court

Kogi State Gubernatorial candidates under Social Democratic Party (SDP), Natasha ’s H. Akpoti defeat Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the appeal court. Recall that Natasha’s was disqualified by INEC to contest for Kogi gubernatorial election that was held on the 16th of November 2019, over what INEC described as age disqualification. According to INEC, the vice gubernatorial candidate to Natasha’s did not meet the age requirements by the constitution. Gunmen attack Kogi community, kill 19, burn houses

By   Emmanuel Francis Gunmen have killed no fewer than 19 people in Tawari community in the Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State, burning buildings, including the palace of the king of the community. The Public Relations Officer of the Kogi State Police Command, Mr. Williams Anya, confirmed the development in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja on Friday. He said that a police assessment team had visited the community and that many buildings, including places of worship, had been burnt. Tawari community is a few kilometres off Gegu town along the Lokoja-Abuja highway. A resident of Tawari community, Mrs. Comfort Solomon, who survived the attack, told NAN that the gunmen, numbering about 100 invaded the community late on Thursday. The Supreme Court of Nigeria in a five man panel headed by Justice Olubolade Joe in a unanimous judgement finally put to rest as it Barred state governors from having the power to sack elected local government chairmen and councilors henchforth. Other areas of the ruling that took place on 11th Dec 2019 includes: 1.
